Arlington, Virginia, May 24th, 2007 - David Hoppin, Managing Director of MergeGlobal Capital Advisors, will address the Third Annual China Trade & Logistics Conference in Savannah, Georgia on June 4th, 2007. Mr. Hoppin will speak about the emergence of time-definite ocean freight products linking China with North America, and how these new transportation products play a critical role in enabling manufacturers and retailers to control total landed cost in China-anchored supply chains.

During his presentation, Mr. Hoppin will:

  • summarize MergeGlobal's latest forecast for China-U.S. containerized ocean trade, broken down by commodity and by import port range
  • identify and assess the "choke points" through which Chinese goods must pass to reach U.S. consumers - crucially, looking at capacity constraints in the North American intermodal rail network
  • discuss shippers' perceptions of the total cost of China-anchored supply chains, with specific attention to the cost of unpredictable transit times from China to North American import DCs
  • review how the market is responding to the problem of declining transit-time reliability, including new time-definite ocean transportation products offered via both West Coast and East and Gulf Coast ports
  • offer MergeGlobal's best estimate of how China-North America ocean transport products will evolve over the next five years
